The Art in the Park 2008 is a juried exhibition of outdoor sculpture.  Three jurors, experts in the field of sculpture will choose 5 artists from a large number of applicants.  Artists are selected on the basis of the originality, artistic conception, and quality of their work.

Art in the Park - Sculpture 08/09 is a juried exhibition of outdoor sculpture that will be installed for one year in Campbell Park – home to the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden - near the heart of historic downtown Lampasas, Texas.  This annual event is sponsored by the non-profit organization, Lampasas Association for the Arts, whose mission is to expand opportunities for everyone to experience the arts.

Three jurors will select five sculptors to participate.  Selections will be made on the basis of originality, artistic conception, and quality of the work.

 Lampasas Association for the Arts retains the right to refuse to exhibit any work chosen by the jurors.

The sculptures must remain installed in the park for the duration of the exhibit (4/26/08 – 4/26/09).

THEME:
The theme of this year’s exhibition is “Wildlife” and could relate to animal, vegetable or mineral.

JURORS
          Bruce Helander, a collage artist, is the former Provost of the Rhode Island School of Design and a fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts.  His work is widely acclaimed and collected, and he has written extensively on contemporary art – most notably in his monthly columns in South Florida Times magazine.
          Joe Kagle has been an “artist and professor in residence” as a Fulbright Scholar and Fulbright Senior Specialist in the Republic of Georgia and Mongolia.  He is a former Chairman of fine arts at Washington and Jefferson College and the University of Guam, and has directed Southeast Arkansas Arts and Science Center, Brockton Art Museum and the Art Center Waco.
          Michael Monroe served as curator and director of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC for 21 years.  He later served as executive director of the American Craft Council.  He is currently the Director and Chief Curator of the Bellevue Arts Museum in Washington State. 

ACCEPTABLE MEDIA:  Outdoor sculpture in any medium which adheres to the theme.

AWARDS:
An award of $1,000.00 will be given to each of the five artists selected by the jury panel.  These awards will be distributed at the artists’ reception on April 26, 2008,

APPLICATION, FEES AND IMAGES:
Each artist must submit an application, along with a non-refundable fee of $45, payable online by credit card.

This $45 fee entitles the artists to submit 10 images representing up to 5 works per application.  The images sent with the application must be of work available for the exhibit.  No substitutes will be accepted.

Sculptors who work together may apply as one if they collaborate on every piece of work submitted with the application.

DEADLINES:
Electronically filed applications must be received no later than April 4, 2008.
Installation must be completed Saturday, April 26th.  An artists’ reception will be from 4 – 6 PM.

NOTIFICATION:
All applicants will be notified of the jury’s decision by e-mail on April 14, 2008
The five sculptors selected to exhibit will be sent instructions for delivery of work on that date via e-mail.
 
INSTALLATION:
April 25-26, 2008 –Delivery and installation may begin in Campbell Park at 8:30 AM on Friday, April 25th.  A fork lift will be available to assist with placement of sculptures  on Saturday, April 26th at 8:30 AM.  Concrete Pads will be provided for each sculpture as needed.

SECURITY:
Lampasas Association for the Arts will provide lighting, security and appropriate insurance against damage and theft of the sculptures during the exhibition.
